Capt. Hogan Brown reports on 8.27.18

Lower Sac Striper fishing has been good if you can get away from the salmon boats. There is salmon in the river and salmon fishing has been good…so that means LOTS of boats out chasing salmon. After a few years of really really poor salmon returns everyone is geared up to go catch salmon. That means we have to be a bit sneaky when it comes to striper fishing picking the stretches and runs that we are going to fish to stay away from MASSIVE amounts of boat traffic.

There are salmon anglers everywhere but there are for sure areas around Chico and corning that have much higher concentrations. If you can get away from the hordes of salmon boat fishing has been really good. Last week was the week before the full moon so fishing was good. There will be a bit of lag at the beggining of this week but going into the holiday weekend fishing will pick back up. Good numbers of 5-8lb fish and a few up to 17lb came to the boat this last week. Most of my guides saw good numbers and had great fishing for the early fall. Mornings are cool and best fishing has been 8-5pm. Still a few fall dates open and never to early to book for the 2019 season.
