Coastal Steelhead Reports

Leslie Ajari reports on 1.20.2016

The NorCal/Southern Oregon coast as well as the inland steelhead rivers such as the Trinity are blown out and expected to stay so for the next week or so, pending no more storms push in…. although it looks like there are a few storms on their way. One of the most important parts of understanding winter steelheading is that its all about timing. The rain is...

John Rickard of Wild Waters Fly Fishing reports on 12.31.2015

www.wildwatersflyfishing.com

A wad of fish showed up on the Iron Gate stretches and fishing has been really good. We got whooped by many bright hens but landed some nice bucks and half-pounders. We are not sure how long it will last, or if more fresh fish are on the way, but we had a ball out there and are very excited about our upcoming...

Klamath & Trinity Fly Fishing Report

AC Fly Fishing Reports

I think “el nino” has arrived. We got pounded with precipitation up here the past few days. Snow down to 2,000 ft. Cold. Wet. Awesome. The current river conditions on the Lower Sac remain great. We’ve had some very good winter fishing this month on the Sac. This is the time of year when we catch trout that barely fit in the net.

The main draw has been the steelhead...

Wildwaters Fly Fishing Reports on 12.3.2015

Steelhead are moving on the Klamath River.  Water Temps have been dropping and more cold weather is on way.  Fish are eating closer to the bottom on the swing and only very few King Salmon remain in the system.  Covering plenty of water in a day has proven successful for a nice steelhead.

AC Fly Fishing Reports on 12.3.2015

Fishing in Northern California is pretty damn good right now. We’ve got a little precipitation on the way which should bring a new batch of Steelhead up the Klamath and Trinity. Both rivers right now are low and clear, so a little bump in color and flow will be a good thing. There are good numbers of steelhead in the Klamath system this year. The Lower Sacramento...

Tayler Wells Reports on 12.3.2015: https://tailwalker.wordpress.com/

The last cold snap sent water temps way down on the Klamath, we are now in winter steelhead mode with temps in the 40’s. With that, there are fish all over the river many being very bright and hard fighting.

The right flies in the right places are key to success. This is the time of year where the larger fish start to show up,...

Tayler Wells Reports on 11.25.2014: https://tailwalker.wordpress.com/

Winter is here! Snowed most of the night and through this morning, giving the hills a beautiful new look.

Fishing continues to remain consistent, and water temps are most likely going to be in the low 50’s to high 40’s for a while. Don’t let that discourage, there are bright fish in the river, willing to eat the swung fly.

Had...

AC Fly Fishing Reports on 11.27.2015

Lower Sacramento River

Typically, the winter months on the Lower Sac show us some of the biggest fish of the year. We don’t always catch big numbers of fish during the winter but we do tend to hook a few fish each winter that barely fit in the net. Baetis hatches in December and January can also provide some really fun mid-day dry fly fishing. Expect a lot of...

Tayler Wells Reports on 11.19.2015

We finally got some rain! Every drop counts up here on the Klamath, and we have been getting a few lately.

Water temps are hovering at the bottom of the 50’s, and are remaining pretty steady.

Swinging a deep and controlled fly has been producing some hard grabs, and as usual the right bugs in the right places drop that bobber under the surface.
I have extremely...

Tayler Wells Reports on 11.12.2015

Life is good in the state of jefferson, and even better when on the water.
With colder temps, and snow on the high hills our water temps are steadily dropping. With that, it’s been time to break out the t-11 or 14 while swinging, and when bobber fishing a deep slow drift can produce takes.
The salmon spawn is about done, lots of dead kings returning the...
