Lower and Upper Sacramento River Fly Fishing Report

Brian Theriot Reports on 8.18.2016

The Lower Sac this week has continued to fish great and should not be missed out on. It is definitely a go to river right now in Nor Cal. These Lower Sac rainbows know how to fight; they will give even the best fish fighters a run for their money! Fishing has been best for me mid morning to dark. Expect the caddis to really get going in the afternoons and evenings...

UPPER SACRAMENTO FLY FISHING REPORT

John Rickard at Wild Waters Fly Fishing Reports on 8.4.2016

The Upper Sac has been fishing really well and many anglers are finding success right through the town of Dunsmuir as well as the lower stretches near Lake Head. The mid day is hard to navigate around the swimmers and tubers so its best to fish in the mornings and late evenings. These days, the fish prefer a bit of shade on the water before they start feeding.

Upper Sac and Pit River Fly Fishing Report

Brian Theriot Reports on 7.14.2016

The beautiful Upper Sacramento River has been putting up a good defense right now and the fishing has been tough, but if you are going to fish this river, the best times have been early morning and late evening. Good hatches have been coming off right before dark and that is your best time for dry fly fishing. Wet wading has been battling the hot temps, so be sure...

Northern California Report

We have been seeing some nice fish coming off of the Northern California Rivers. As we move in to the warmer months fishing gets tougher for those who don’t know where to find fish.

here are some tips for our Northern California Rivers

  • Morning and evening are likely going to be the most productive times of the day.
  • Fish the faster more oxgentated water.
  • Fish shady spots and deeper water.
  • Fish pocket...

Upper and Lower Sac Fly Fishing Report

Brian “Bucko” Theriot reports on 6.23.2016

Upper Sac

If your planning on coming up to the upper sac, you might as well leave those waders at home! This river is perfect for wet wading and the temps are suppose to jet up into the 90s by Saturday and even up to the hundreds by early next week. The fishing has been best mornings and evenings and the nymphing game has been good. Nymphs to try: prince...

McCloud & Upper River Fishing Report

Wild Waters Fly Fishing Reports on 6.9.2016

The McCloud River and Upper Sacramento are both fishing very well. Expect slow times of the day as well as moments of brilliance as the trout are looking up and eating dries. PMDs Drakes and Golden Stones are all on the menu.

Upper Sac and McCloud Fly Fishing Report

Brian “Bucko” Theriot reports on 6.9.2016

The Upper Sac and the McCloud have been fishing great and the flows and weather have been perfect for wet wading! Expect to bring a full arsenal of dries, nymphs, and soft hackles, because the fish are looking up, down, and side to side! Expect the best dry fly action in the evenings, but don’t count out mid day dry fly action. Golden Stones, yellow...

Upper Sac and McCloud River Fly Fishing Report

Bucko Theriot Reports on 5.26.2016

The fishing is good in Siskiyou County right now and should start to see the bugs get going again. The weather up here was pretty crazy the last couple days. We had thunderstorms and some heavy downpours while on the river. The golden-stones weren’t really out due to the weather, but with nice weather starting from today on should get them out in good numbers. The...

Upper Sacramento Fly Fishing Report

Brian “Bucko” Theriot Reports on 5.18.2016

The Upper Sac is almost in prime shape to make it wader friendly throughout the whole river. The flows have dropped down to 673 cfs but that could change with rain on the way. I would focus on the The Upper Part of the River that is definitely more easier to wade than the lower part. We are seeing salmon flies, golden stones, caddis, and mayflies hatching...

McCloud River

Opening weekend on the McCrowd lived up to its name. Most of the popular public water saw many anglers paying homage and the ever popular Simms hatch was definitely occurring. Reports I got from most were it was a good social occasion with limited results on the fishing end. But hey, it’s only going to get better and the crowds will disappear … for...
