Upper Sac and Pit River Fly Fishing Report

Pit RiverJul 14, 20161 min read

Brian Theriot Reports on 7.14.2016

The beautiful Upper Sacramento River has been putting up a good defense right now and the fishing has been tough, but if you are going to fish this river, the best times have been early morning and late evening. Good hatches have been coming off right before dark and that is your best time for dry fly fishing. Wet wading has been battling the hot temps, so be sure to bring wet wading gear. Hot flies have been LBS (little black stuff): micro mays, midges, dark lords, and small pheasant tails, also try throwing prince nymphs and copper johns.

Meanwhile on the Pit, it has been fair to good. Expect caddis patterns and small mayfly patterns to get munched on. Try taking the indicator off a high sticking the pockets to detect the strike better.
