Lower and Upper Sacramento River Fly Fishing Report

Lower Sacramento RiverAug 18, 20161 min read

Brian Theriot Reports on 8.18.2016

The Lower Sac this week has continued to fish great and should not be missed out on. It is definitely a go to river right now in Nor Cal. These Lower Sac rainbows know how to fight; they will give even the best fish fighters a run for their money! Fishing has been best for me mid morning to dark. Expect the caddis to really get going in the afternoons and evenings and be sure to bring some dries or soft hackles!

Opening days: August 28, 31. September 1-7, 11-13, 18-20, 25-27

The upper has been fishing good early mornings and late evenings and you can expect some dry fly action at those times as well. This is a great river to wet wade right now to cool off from the scorching temps that we are experiencing in the north state. Mid day I would recommend fishing the heavily oxygenated water and looking for some water that is shaded.
