Flows on the Little Truckee River have now dropped to 21 cfs. To low to fish in my opinion. Please stay off the Little Truckee River and the main Truckee River until flows come up.

Not sure how long flows will stay this low on the LT. Word was they were to come up 150 cfs until August 15th?

Finally a little cooler weather and afternoon thunderstorms have been helping.

If you can find some places to fish other than the Truckee River good on you.

Higher elevation lakes have been good, calibaetis still mostly.

Bass in the local lakes have been good, Prosser, Boca, and Stampede. Most of your normal trout nymphs work, crayfish patterns are a must have...

It’s looking like California Dept of Fish and Wildlife is going to close drought stricken rivers in California by next week. The Truckee River will of course be on that list. As many of you know by now, the Truckee river has had a 24hr Hoot Owl Closer in effect for at least the last two to three weeks. Long story short, this is a temporary, voluntary closer if you’re not familiar.

If you noticed the Truckee River fishing report has been changed too, Truckee-Tahoe Area Fishing Report. I just cannot condone fishing the river at these flows at least in the normal manner, I’ll explain.

Flows out of Boca Res are now 16cfs, putting the river here in Hirschdale to 108 cfs. Down lower, below Floriston it is a bit higher, maybe 150 cfs or so.

We all knew the ass end was going to drop out, and yes flows out of Boca have been cut to 35cfs, putting the Truckee River down to about 135cfs in Hirschdale, and about 200 cfs near state line. The Nevada side is even lower. The river always gets hit the hardest as TWMA pulls water out of the river for the city of Reno.

The rain last week gave the Truckee a much needed flush of fresh water through the system and the fish and bugs seemed to appreciate it. The storms did pump some color in the river from a few different sources but that’s a non issue now.
