Truckee River Fly Fishing Report
Matt Koles reports on 11.4.2015:
It’s looking like November will be nothing like October at least temperature wise. This month was not warm, but more like hot in the Truckee-Tahoe-Reno area. We had a dusting of snow on the higher peaks yesterday, and it’s looking like a cold storm is on it’s way Sunday.
The Truckee River is still somewhat low, but a few good storms can turn things around quickly. This last weeks storm helped. There are some sections with descent flows, and of course, that’s where we’ve been fishing. Overnight lows are now in the 20’s, and daytime temps will struggle to make it out of the 40’s next week in Truckee. This is the time of year to sleep in, have that extra cup of coffee, and hit the water later. Cloud cover and inclement weather will get the mid-day baetis hatches going. Streamers should be good too this week, and in the coming weeks.
The Little Truckee has been pretty crowded as of late. That’s ok. 10% of anglers catch 90% of the fish. Remember that. That’s true on any place you fish. Usually you can fish behind someone on the LT and catch fish as long as they haven’t waded through everything. All the people pissing and moaning about all the people out there, relax, most people aren’t that lethal with their fly rods, they’re just out enjoying themselves and wetting a line. If you do go out to the LT, flows are good, baetis are pop’n, and be careful of spawning brown trout up near the dam.
We have one spot left for the clinic on Saturday November 14th at Pyramid Lake if anyone is interested.
