NOR CAL FLY GUIDES

Feather River:

Despite what you may hear the Feather is fishing pretty good right now. Over the past 2 weeks the number of steelhead in the system has increased dramatically and we are seeing a good number of steelhead from 12"-26", most are 16-22". Not only are there more steelhead, we are seeing a large number of salmon starting to spawn. Most are staging and...

Dave Neal Reports on 9.3.2015

The first week of September is finally upon us. We will soon turn the slow corner into fall season!

I’ve spent most of my guide days this past week fishing out of Clearwater Lodge on nearby waters of the Fall River Valley, Hat Creek and the Pit River along with a couple days floating the Lower Sac in Redding. We had a wonderful time at the Lodge with Chef Noelle...

Fall River Fly Fishing Report

A great Nor-Cal option has been the cool waters of Fall River. Midges and callibaetis are on the menu daily, presenting them on the downstream feed is the effective method. Look for the dry/dropper potential and you will find it. Swinging a leech pattern is also a lot of fun and a great way to mix it up for those who want a break from the bobber! I look forward to...

Dave Neal at Real Adventures reports on 8.6.2015

Fished Fall River and surrounding waters a couple days this past weekend with some Clearwater Lodge guests and we had solid fishing when the fish were grabby along with slower periods of the day when they were not so grabby. Most of our success came on very small midges and very small mayfly patterns drifted under an indicator along with a few...

Pit River

Fishing continues to be solid in the Inter-Mountain region. I’ve spent most of my guide days in the areas of Hat Creek, Fall River and Pit 3 this week. With lots of good (cold water) summer fishing destinations nearby, Clearwater Lodge has been our base camp for adventures. Chef Noel’s amazing culinary creations are always a fantastic finale to a great day on...

Dave Neal Reports on 7.8.15

There are many solid trout fishing options in the North State right now! This week should be particularly awesome with the cooler weather & overcast afternoons we are experiencing.

Currently, I’m most excited about fishing Fall River, Lower Sac, and the Pit #3, while doing skills-building sessions for beginners, kids, and novices on places like Hat Creek, Burney Creek...

Dax Masset of Confluence Outfitters Reports on 6.27.15

It’s been hotter on Fall River the last few days than it was for my epic hosted trip to Central America last month. The good news is that it makes for good hexing, my favorite hatch of all time. Bad news is that fishing during the day just has been tough on Fall, both the fishing and getting pummeled by the heat in the boat. Some big fish are...

Hat Creek/ Fall River Fishing Report

Leslie Ajari

The past holiday weekend was quite busy in most local streams and rivers, but the fish were happy and ate quite willingly. Fall river fished well on a nymph, and also there were opportunity to catch wild rainbows on a dry fly. The evenings produced beautiful thunderheads, but we were spared rain. However, the clouds did make for some beautiful sunsets.

Mornings on Hat...
