California Delta Fly Fishing Report

Steve Santucci reports on 7.12.18

Delta

Delta fishing for Largemouth and Smallmouth has been good .  We had a fun day yesterday fishing and catching some fun size Striped Bass.  The wind was somewhat cooperative and we were able to fish the West Delta .

It’s fun because you have the chance to hook three or four different species in the same day. Also there is a minimum amount of angler pressure on...

Monterey Surf Fly Fishing Report

Evan Praskin reports on 7.12.18

Surf

The surf has continued to produce for those giving it the effort as we cruz into mid summer. Stripers have made most of the anglers take the long walk to get a bite as the fish have been on the move, but once you find them its on!

Monterey side has been hit or miss for the fly guys, but I have had some good reports closer to Aptos with less walking involved. That...

Owyhee Fly Fishing Report

Cory Godell reports on 7.12.18

Owyhee

The fishing on the Owyhee has also been very good. Just like the Deschutes, because of the hot weather the hatches having been going bonkers.

Fishing the riffles the flats, you name it they’ve all been good. The longer the hot weather stays with us the sooner we will be fishing hoppers and those can really get those brown trout going.

Deschutes River Fly Fishing Report

Cory Godell reports on 7.12.18

Oregon

When we get hot weather we can get some unbelievable caddis hatches, and man has it been hot here lately. When hot snaps hit us like we are having, it makes the caddis go nuts and tons of them all hatch at once. Because of this we are having some of the best dry fly fishing of the summer. As long as the hot weather continues to stick around we should have good...

Fall River Fly Fishing Report

Anthony Carruesco reports on 7.12.18

Hex Hatch

Our Fall River Guru, Jay Cockrum has been reporting solid fishing over there recently. The Hex hatch is in full swing in the evenings and providing some very fun and fast paced dry fly fishing.

There have been baetis hatches in the mornings with a few PMDs mixed in. Mostly a subsurface game during the mid-day if you want to find some of the bigger fish....

Lower Sacramento Fly Fishing Report

Anthony Carruesco reports on 7.12.18

Lower Sac

The past few days on the “Sac” have been exceptional. You might hit a few “lulls” throughout the day but there have been a few windows where the fish have been chowing down.

Flows are up to 13k cubes so adding a little extra weight to get your bugs down to the dance floor can be the difference. Caddis, a few PMDs and small Baetis have been coming off...

McCloud River Fly Fishing Report

Rick Cox reports on 7.6.18

McCloud River

The McCloud River is also dropping into it’s summer time pattern of early and late the most productive times.

There is a bump in the Simms hatch this week but into next week and the rest of the summer the crowds on this river will disappear giving her a good rest. So for you summer buffs the sermon goes …. fish shaded areas, fish the fast water and fish deep...

Upper Sacramento Fly Fishing Report

Upper Sacramento River Report

The Upper Sacramento River is getting into it’s summer time pattern now. Start early, take a break, then get back at it in the evening.

Trip yesterday produced steady action for my clients but the fish tended to be grabbier early and later. Think shade, fast oxygenated water and getting the bugs down … and don’t forget a good hook set, these...

Lower Sacramento Striper Fly Fishing Report

Capt. Hogan Brown reports on 7.6.18

Lower Sacramento River Striper Fishing - Fishing has been fair to good depending on the day. Lots of smaller and keeper size fish around but the big boys and girls are still a bit sluggish moving onto the edges to feed. Had shots but it has been a bit slow to start. Water temps are cooler then usual and my gut says that the big fish are still feeding on or...
