Eastern Sierra Fly Fishing Report

Jim Stimson reports on 7.6.18

Happy 5th of July! The weather on the east side has been perfect and the fishing solid. The air quality around the Mammoth Lakes area has been hazy from a smoldering fire down in the Devil’s Postpile area but it is mainly confined to that Mammoth Pass corridor. If you venture north or south, the air clears up nicely.

Again, watch out for deer strolling across the...

McCloud River Fly Fishing Report

Chuck Volckhausen reports on 6.28.18

McCloud Magic

The McCloud has been fantastic lately. Days are starting to get hot.  We’ve been all over the North state this week as most rivers are prime with end of Spring and the beginning of Summer.

Everyone has been talking about how good the fishing is. It’s true. We’re catching them! Shade helps right now and most hatches are happening in the evening.

Eastern Sierra Fly Fishing Report

Jim Stimson reports on 6.30.18

Sierra Nevada

Wow! Where did the month of June go? Fishing in places has been as hot as the weather. The backcountry runoff has stabilized and I believe the high water period has passed on the freestone creeks and rivers. Get out there and enjoy the fishing and the Sierra. I’ve been wet wading in all streams except the East Walker, only because you tend to stand in...

Hat Creek Fly Fishing Report

Aaron Gabriel reports on 6.28.18

Hat Creek

I have been fishing the rifle portions of hat creek. Czech Nymphing with a small soft tackle, size 16-18 as my top fly and the dropper has been a small jig style fly with a tungsten bead, size 14.

This has been producing incredible action for 6-12 inch fish with the occasional large trout, 14-20 inch. If early morning fishing is your thing don’t forget the...

Lower Sac Fly Fishing Report

Aaron Gabriel reports on 6.28.17

Lower Sac

Summertime hatches are in full swing with Yellow Sallies, PMD’s and Caddis coming off in big numbers. Park Marina to Anderson is fishing well.  We have been finding fish in the shallow rifles which makes using the boat, anchoring and wading to these spots effective.

A fun twist from targeting Trout on the Lower Sac is tying on a Woolly Bugger and getting...

North Fork Yuba River Fly Fishing Report

Jon Baiocchi reports on 6.28.17

North Fork Yuba

It’s that time of year when I’m done with the stillwaters of Plumas National Forest and switching gears to guide on the North Fork Yuba River, and the Little Truckee River. My first two trips on the NFYR were beyond awesome due to the fact that my guests love small water and wild trout on light weight rods. The flows are a tad high in the upper...

Truckee River Fly Fishing Report

Matt Koles reports on 6.28.18

Truckee

Good solid fishing here on the Truckee River.

Nice in the mornings, downright hot in the afternoons. Typical summer weather pattern. There ain’t much difference between the high temp in Hirschdale and downtown Reno. It gets hot.

Flows have come back up with releases out of Lake Tahoe. Nice cool water coming down the pipe.

Water is about 450 cfs here in the Hirsch...

Truckee River Fly Fishing Report

Jordan Romney Reports on 6.25.18

Truckee

Flows are really really good right now. Water temps are great in the morning and evenings and the fish are eating well. They started dumping water out of Lake Tahoe so the upper stretches of the river have swelled a bit. It has really just affected the Glenshire stretch in a good way. Flows in the mid river and lower canyon are perfect right now. The LT has...
