Lower Sacramento Fly Fishing Report

Lower Sacramento RiverJul 12, 20181 min read

Anthony Carruesco reports on 7.12.18

Lower Sac

The past few days on the “Sac” have been exceptional. You might hit a few “lulls” throughout the day but there have been a few windows where the fish have been chowing down.

Flows are up to 13k cubes so adding a little extra weight to get your bugs down to the dance floor can be the difference. Caddis, a few PMDs and small Baetis have been coming off sporadically.

We haven’t seen much dry fly fishing yet this summer but that can change any day. The Fish in the Lower Sac are in Phenomenal shape right now - as fat and healthy as you might ever see.

Due to this, we’ve been losing a lot of flies to these hot fish. “LET EM RUN!!” has been said often recently.. This is the most underrated time of the year on this river.
