Lower Yuba & Lower Sac Fly Fishing Report

Hogan Brown Reports on 1.12.17

So, if you have read any of the fishing reports you are probably already under the realization that most everything is blown out…That amount of water that has come down the Lower Yuba and Lower Sacramento is incredible. Outside of Chico the Sac got up to 115,000cfs and the Yuba got up to 81,000cfs (as of 9 Jan)…those are river channel changing flows. New runs,...

Eastern Sierra Fly Fishing Report

Jim Stimson Reports on 1.12.17

We are off to a good start with the weather. Here is the current local forecast: The Mammoth Mountain Ski Area has received over 16 feet of snow from this last weather system! I live around the corner from Mammoth, more in the rain shadow of the Sierra but I have been spending a few hours a day with snow removal, either by shovel or snowblower. I believe we have...

Lower Sac Fly Fishing Report

Anthony Carruesco Reports on 1.10.17

image

The Lower Sac is on her way up to 20k cubes by Wednesday afternoon. The combination of big flows and winter is usually the perfect recipe for running into some of the biggest fish in the river.

Starting on Thursday, the sun is supposed to come out and stay here until early next week.

The above photo is from this morning here in the Hirsch on the Truckee River.

The river in the photo is at just about 4,800 cfs. I took a photo on Sunday afternoon at the same spot at 4,800 cfs as well. Late Sunday night the river rose to just over 8,000 cfs. The river is just up over 3,000 cfs right now Monday evening. Big, big pulse of water. The river in Reno crested...

Yuba River Fly Fishing Report

Jon Baiocchi Reports on 1.9.17

The great atmospheric river of 2017 (so far) started its wrath on the region early Saturday morning with light rain, and intensified into the evening. By Sunday morning the precipitation was heavy, along with very windy conditions here in Nevada City. The Sierra started off with snow in the morning which then turned to rain, and snow levels increased up to 9,000 feet...

Trinity River Fly Fishing Report

I was speaking with a buddy of mine, Aaron Grabiel, and he was saying these rain storms have been pulling in fish. Every Trinity guide I have talked to said it’s been tough but they each have had intermittent good fishing and some folks are blessed with finding a fresh push of fish. It looks like the Trinity will blowout Sunday or Monday, but hit it right and you could be a happy camper.

Surf Fly Fishing Report

Jack Harrison reports on 1.5.2017

“Surf has been productive with a variety of perch of all sizes and species being caught. The big females are around but there are also lots of younger fish in the mix as well which can make for a productive outing if you can find them. The very large swells we had this fall and early winter have torn up the surf zone so expect almost any beach to have a variety of...
