Delta Fly Fishing Report

Steve Santucci reports on 4.6.17

Delta fishing has not been red hot this week but I would say that most are catching decent numbers of striped bass. The smaller fly is out producing the larger flies this week. The San Joaquin has the clearest water with temperatures from 59 to 64 degrees.

Deschutes River Fly Fishing Report

Cory Godell reports on 4.6.17

Deschutes RiverIt’s that time of the year again. April 22nd is opening day on the Lower Deschutes. If you enjoy nymphing for trout you do not want to miss the first couple of weeks of the season. The fish should be good and hungry, and a bit on the dumb side of things since they haven’t been fished for in months. On top of what should be some great nymphing, you...

Trinity River and Lower Sacramento River Fly Fishing Report

Dave Neal Reports on 4.6.17

Lower Sacramento-

Good news for Lower Sac fans… the water clarity in the river improved last week enough that we fished the river for the first time in several months. Water flows are currently 10k and clarity is about 18” – finally turning more a shade of green from the pervasive brown water that persisted all winter long.

Weather earlier this week was awesome with highs...

Delta Fly Fishing Report

Steve Santucci Reports on 3.31.2017

The water conditions and weather continues to change from week to week. Each week brings new challenges and the adaptive angler will have a chance to score on some fun fish.  The water temperatures are hovering around 60 degrees.   The clarity that you experience can depend on tide and location.  Most anglers are scoring and adapting to the conditions.

Lower Sac and Trinity River Fly Fishing Report

Dave Neal reports on 3.10.17

Lower Sacramento River-

It’s been a long wait for anglers on the Lower Sacramento River… and there just might be a turning point on the horizon.

I went for a mtn. bike ride the other day by Shasta Dam and the Centimudi area and noticed the lake is FINALLY beginning to clear. Water conditions on the lake are currently green with visibility two about 2’ or slightly better.

Coastal Fly Fishing Report

Lost Coast Outfitters reports on 3.30.17

For those needed one last buzz before the end of an all too short steelfish season, the upper South Fork Eel and the Gualala will be in shape tomorrow. You may want to blow off work, it’s going to be a long summer of not steelhead fishing.

The rest of us are reflecting on a season of blown out rivers and canceled trips, reminding ourselves that all the water...

Surf and Bay Fly Fishing Report

Lost Coast Outfitters reports on 3.30.17

The Bay seems to be clear one day and off the next. The dirty creek and Delta flows combined with clean water currents from the Golden Gate make for some great color lines, but that can change daily with the tides.  A good number of striper are being caught in the usual places Corte Madera and Richardson bays to name a few.

Bait and schoolie stripers are out...

Trinity River Fly Fishing Report

Lost Coast Outfitters reports on 3.30.17

Life on the Trinity remains much the same as it has all winter, high water and a few fish around to keep hope alive. The end of proper steelhead season is upon us but much of the Trinity remains open through spring so check your regs and get after it. The fish don’t have any concept of our calendar so go find a rosy steelie or elusive butter bellied brown.

Th...

Truckee River Fly Fishing Report

Matt “Gilligan” Koles reports on 3.30.17

Big water and big fish. Nothing much has changed since last week. Lots of water coming down the pike.

This fishing has been good though. I really can’t believe I’d be saying that at these flows. We’ve done well this last week. The fish have been the healthiest I’ve ever seen-no joke. Lots of water means lots of food for our trouts to eat. These fish are big...
