Sacramento Area Fly Fishing Report

Brian Clemens reports on 8.20.2015

Yuba River

The Yuba is still the place to be right now, and is only get better. The flows are a bit down this week, around 720cfs, but the water temps are staying steady in the upper 50’s, and the fish are loving it. We have been seeing some bigger fish in the last two weeks, not only trout but the salmon are starting to show up too. Saw about a dozen podded up at...

Lower Yuba River Fly Fishing Report

Dave Barbieri Yuba Reports  8/11/15

After an incredible spring trout season, and an awesome shad run, trout fishing on the Yuba River has reverted to typical Yuba. Experienced anglers can get good numbers of fish. Beginners have more difficulty because the fish have become selective, and spooky. Perfect drifts, quick hooksets, and effective line management, all make a huge difference.

North Fork Yuba Fly Fishing

Jon Baiocchi / Baiocchi’s Troutfitters Reports on 8.4.2015

Water levels are low and remain about the same as my last report, clouds, and some rain has helped stabilize flows. In the upper reaches of the watershed, water temperatures are 58 at 8am, rising to 64 by early afternoon. Fishing pressure has been light. Fishing with a 3wt. or smaller, is the only way to go here, ditch the 4, and 5; it...

Jon Baiocchi / Baiocchi’s Troutfitters Reports on 7.22.2015

Lance Gray and I are running a Yuba River pontoon drift workshop, It’s about learning how to read the water, control your boat, and gain confidence with your oarsman skills. All aspects will be covered. The workshop date is 9/28.

Water levels continue to fall and it’s getting very skinny in some sections. The good news is there are...

North Fork Yuba Fly Fishing Report

Jon Baiocchi Reports on 6/27/15

This only concentrates the wild trout in the larger runs and plunge pools. Water temps in the areas that I am guiding on with my guests are starting out at 55 in the early morning,...

A group of us went up to fish the North Fork of the Yuba River. It is one of my favorite places to take beginners and novice anglers. Check out the LCO Guide to Fly Fishing the North Fork Yuba River for more info on fishing the NFYR.

Protip: Bears are all over so make sure you keep you campsite clean and all food locked in the bear boxes.

Jon The North Fork Yuba River is firing on all cylinders right now. Fishing is extremely good, and the evenings have been magical. Water temps are ranging from 57-63 degrees depending on your location within the watershed. The best area to concentrate on now is from the Downieville area to Sierra City. The lower river around Rocky Rest is heating up, though...
