Lower Sac and Lower Yuba fly Fishing Report

Lower Sacramento River Stripers
I spent that last
week for and guiding for stripers on the Lower Sac outside of chico.
Fall fishing for stripers can be really good or really tough depending
on the weather. Unstable weather really shuts the fishing down but if
the weather is stable for a few days the fish can really get on the
feed. This saturday
we hooked a bunch of stripers up to 8 lbs, a nice chrome king, and a
few largemouth up to 5 lbs…not a bad day. Fishing for stripers and
largemouth should continue until the river blows out with a big storm
assuming stable weather.
Most fish are up along the weeds or cruising over the rereading weed beds so fishing type 3 and Intermediate lines with light flies is catching the most fish. Lots of visual takes which is a lot of fun!
Lower Yuba River
Upcoming…with the lower yuba river
is starting to fish well and with any rain and some increase in flows
fishing should get really good. Salmon have been late on both the Yuba
and feather so November is going to be a great month as most things are going to be late this year assuming we get some good rain. Butte Creek opens Nov. 15
and though the opener is usually good we need some rain before then to
move steelhead up from the Sac and get the trout active. November is
also going to be a great month down low on the Sac from Red Bluff to Los Motions for trout and steelhead.
Open dates:
- Nov 22, 24
- Dec 5, 21-23, 27-31
