Lower Sacramento Fly Fishing Report

AC Fly Fishing Reports on 3.8.2017

As we roll into March, the trout fishing on the Lower Sacramento River is starting to fire on all cylinders. The past few days of trout fishing have been as good as you will ever see out here. The hatches of BWOs, PMDs, and Spring Caddis have been spectacular. We’ve had more trout looking up to rise to the dry fly than I can remember in a long time. If there were...

Lower Yuba Fly Fishing Report

Hogan Brown Reports on 3.9.2018

Been guiding the Lower Yuba River lately…river came up from 850cfs to 2500ish cfs this last weekend but has sense dropped down to 850cfs again. Fishing was fair at the high flows as there was some color and fishing off color water rigs and such was catching some fish higher in the float but about middway down fishing more of what the fish were eating was necessary as...

Yuba River Fly Fishing Report

Jon Baiocchi Reports on 3.7.2018

image

In the last week the flows came up dramatically on the Lower Yuba River during and after our biggest storm of the winter season. The river topped out at 3,188 cubes which is a perfect flushing flow with no harm done. Deer creek ran as high as 1,870 cfs and as always pumped in a lot of dirty water. Currently the Yuba River is at 959 cubes and there is just a tinge of...

Storms breathe new life into steelhead rivers

fishingthenorthcoast

Following a dry and unseasonably warm first half of February, there is finally some good news to report – widespread rain and heavy mountain snowfall are imminent across nearly all of California. For the North Coast, weather models are indicating above normal precipitation in the coming weeks,...

SURF FLY FISHING REPORT

Evan Praskin Reports on 2.25.2018

Well back to the cold weather we go, its about time winter showed up! The mornings have started out pretty chilly at a warm 38 degrees. Luckily a little beach walking and casting heats things up pretty quick.

The fishing down here in Monterey Bay is starting to pick up! Over the weekend there were some nice numbers of perch caught, Saturday seemed to be the producer over Sunday even though the conditions were pretty identical. A fun WNW Swell filled in through most the weekend with almost zero wind in the AM making for some great Fly Fishing conditions! Had a great group of guys out who got to check off throwing flies in the salt and surf stripers!

Most all of the sand crabs are now carrying bright orange eggs so be sure to have some “hot spots” on your flies. Another messy swell mixes in this week which may change things a bit, but the stripers are just starting to show up and the fishing should only improve from here on out. We’ve been catching the outgoing tide in the mornings (High@5:30AM), but as the next few weeks go by things should line up perfectly for a pretty epic March! We still have a few spots open next month, but things are filling up fast. Hope everyone has a great week, stay warm, and we’ll see you on the beach!

Truckee River Fly Fishing Report

Matt “Gilligan” Koles Reports on 2.26.2018

More cold and snow on the Truckee River.

Ain’t much to report since last report.

This week looks to be the same as last week with the exception of a big storm by weeks end. So more cold and snow and ice in the guides type of winter fishing. That’s ok, we really need the snow.

If you plan on fishing think small midges, mayflies, worms and eggs. Fish the during...

Pyramid Lake Fly Fishing Report

John Fochetti Reports on 3.1.2018

Fishing is definitely starting to pick up! Good numbers of fish are being caught and big fish are being caught almost daily. Fish seem to be pretty keyed in on chironomids, mostly darker colors. There are still some being caught on balanced leeches. Your best bet is to fish hard, the bite is kind of sporadic so stick it out.

Rogue River Fly Fishing Report

Jim Andras Reports on 3.1.2017

What a difference a little rain makes:

The upper Rogue continued to fish well this week. Still seeing mostly late summer fish with a few winters in the mix with an adipose fin on almost every one. Winter finally arrived this morning with snow in Talent and high temps predicted to stay in the 40’s over the next ten days. Aside from a few showers, precipitation looks...

Delta Fly Fishing Report

Steve Santucci Reports on 3.1.2018

Delta Striper fishing is good.  Some good Stripers mixed in with the  school size fish.  The current water temps are between 49 and 52 degrees much depending on the time of day.  I like to use large flies at this time of year.  March and April are the two best months of the year to catch your personal best Striper in the Delta.

Trinity River Fly Fishing Report

Dave Neal Reports on 3.1.2018

The Trinity River is still kicking out a few steelhead here and there but you really have to want it and persist. Mostly wild fish mixed with some nice halfies along with an occasional incidental downer. Late Feb/ March is a mixed bag. Any given day can be great, especially with some weather and rain in the forecast. The river has not been crowded and lately we’ve...
