Delta Fly Fishing Report

Bryce Tedford reports on 4.26.18

California Delta

The weather is finally warm & the Delta is clearing up as well. We are still working pretty hard for fish & have been averaging 10-15 fish to 5lbs with an occasional large fish mixed in. Also, with warmer temperatures, the Largemouth are getting aggressive & are a fun surprise mixed in with the Stripers. The trick has been to find reasonable clean...

Lower Sacramento Fly Fishing Report

Anthony Carruesco reports 4.26.18

Lower Sac

Flows on the Lower Sac are slowly starting to climb. We’re currently sitting at 4,200 cubes. A little extra flow through the flats is very welcome right now. Weekends have been busy with folks but most weekdays have been easier to find a little solitude. Fishing remains good to very good.

Fewer bugs out the past few days but the fish have stayed pretty...

Lower Feather Fly Fishing Report

Capt. Hogan Brown reports on  4.26.18

Lower Feather Spring Steelhead - spent a few days out swinging flies on the Lower Feather for spring steelhead this week. Fishing has been good. We have been getting good numbers of small half pounders and then multiple hook up on adults each day.

The Low Flow section of the river is still pretty high around 1000cfs but the high flow is perfect at around...

Feather River Fly Fishing Report

Ryan Johnston reports on 4.26.18

The Feather River spring steelhead run is still holding strong. There are fish spread throughout the system with both high flow and low flow fishing equally. Most of the fish right now are in the typical 17-21" range with lots of strong fiesty chromers waiting to gobble up your fly.

Guys are doing well swinging and nymphing. Expect another couple good weeks of...

Truckee River Fly Fishing Report

Mattew Koles reports on 4.26.18

Flows are dropping.

Flows continue to drop and the water is crystal clear on the Truckee River.

With the flows dropping it opens up the whole river including the Nevada side. Good, because that opens up a lot of river for me to guide and when most of those fish haven’t seen a fly in a few months, it’s game time.

1,450 k here in the Hirsh. Down from 4,400 k last week,...

Coastal Fly Fishing Report

John Rickard reports on 4.19.18

The Coast

Whether you just can’t give up swinging the Spey rod, chasing steelhead or just love fishing on the coast, the Smith River is your bet. The river closes at the end of the month and is dropping into perfect shape for her last days of the season. Flows will be around 3000 this weekend.

Still… chrome bright fish enter from the sea and charge upstream to spawn....

McCloud River Fly Fishing Report

John Rickard reports on 4.19.18

McCloud

She slept well this winter with very few high flows and no devastating flushes. As I walk her banks now I can see spring emerging, the dogwoods are blooming, redbud is popping and the green of fresh growth is hard to ignore.

Opening day is Sat the 26th. Not one of these trout have seen a fly for five months. The McCloud is our specialty and we have guides...

Upper Sacramento Fly Fishing Report

John Rickard reports on 4.19.18

Upper Sac

The Upper Sac has seen some radical changes these last few weeks. From snow to rain, too hot days with snowmelt. We’ve seen this river fluctuate inflows and turbidity. However, I am pleased to say this blue water trout stream is now in fantastic spring shape and fishing well. We have seen some quality fish up and down this 40-mile system. Fish from 10” to...

Lower Sacramento Fly Fishing Report

John Rickard reports on 4.19.18

Lower Sac

We have been experiencing some dramatic shifts in the weather from warm and sunny to cold, wet and windy. It makes for a challenge but also keeps the fish from becoming stale. They have been switching their diets around depending upon the weather from Beatis, PMD’s, Caddis, Stones, and the Sucker Spawn egg. If one is not working try one of the other. We’ve...

California Delta Fly Fishing Report

Bryce Tedford reports on 4.19.18

Delta

Striper fishing has been a challenge the last few weeks with wind, rain & some dirty water throughout the Delta. The challenge is to find fish in these varying conditions that change day to day along with the locations of the fish themselves.

With some diligent guests & a lot of work, we have been averaging 10-15 fish to 5lbs. The trick has been to find...
