Lower Feather Fly Fishing Report

Arrow Thin Left Icon

Capt. Hogan Brown reports on  4.26.18

Lower Feather Spring Steelhead - spent a few days out swinging flies on the Lower Feather for spring steelhead this week. Fishing has been good. We have been getting good numbers of small half pounders and then multiple hook up on adults each day.

The Low Flow section of the river is still pretty high around 1000cfs but the high flow is perfect at around 2000cfs. Clarity is good and fish are starting to key on smaller flies due to the caddis coming off in good numbers. Fishing should remain decent throughout May but as the weather gets warmer fishing will be best morning and evening.

Lower Sac Striper fishing - Migratory fish were in the river thick the last week or so and fishing was red hot but I heard from a good buddy that the fish spawned as the water reached 61degrees this weekend and this should shut fishing down until later this week.

Lower Sac Shad fishing should be picking up over the next few weeks as well and I imagine we should have a great shad year with the flows being fishable and many of the local shad spots accessible to wade anglers.
