Eastern Sierra Fly Fishing Report

Jim Stimson reports on 8.23.18

As we turn the corner on August I am pleased to say that the smokey skies are finally clearing out. It is nice not choking on acrid air. The temperatures are beginning to drop as well and there is a hint of autumn in the air. Hoppers are still cruising around in most of the streams in the Long Valley Caldera which makes for some fun fishing. Casting large, visible...

California Delta Fly Fishing Report

Bryce Tedford reports on 8.23.18

Nothing was on fire this week but it was a mixed bag as we found quality Stripers, Largemouth & Smallmouth. This time of year it can be a fun challenge to chase all 3 bass species in the same day

& get a “Bass Slam”. Hard to beat size 2 Topwater frogs for Largemouth, smaller size 6-8 poppers for Smallmouth & size 1/0-2/0 Clouser minnows for Stripers. For Topwater...

Big Horn & Wind River Fly Fishing Report

Rick Cox reports on 8.22.18

For the last week and a half I’ve been in Wyoming enjoying the hopper action throwing every hopper pattern I can get my hands on. Fortunately or unfortunately for me I have had to come this far but its been well worth it for me and my buds, Fred “The Fish” Gordon and Buster.

Straight up hopper, hopper dropper and hopper dropper dropper has been the game.

We have been on...

North Fork Yuba River Report

Conditions remain the same for the North Fork Yuba River with a few slight changes. There is a Trico spinner fall when air temps reach 65 to 70 degrees. The trout are rising to spent spinners in the film, Also, the little western Green Drake is out in very small numbers. Now that the kids are back in school there is very little fishing...

Lower Sacramento River Fly Fishing Report

Ryan Johnston reports on 8.22.18

Sacramento River Stripers

Fishing on the Sacramento River near Chico remains solid for stripers. As is typical in August our numbers start to decrease but we start seeing more quality fish later in the season that we go. The best fishing the last couple of weeks has been in the middle parts of the day from 11AM-2PM being the best bite.

This time of year it really...

Deschutes River Fly Fishing Report

Cory Godnell reports on 8.22.18

This time of season there are truly tons of great fishing options to be had. If rainbow trout is what you prefer, the Deschutes is fishing very good. During the heat of the day nymphing is the best way to catch Deschutes Redsides. But by no means is it the only way. If you know where to look there are still plenty of dry fly opportunities out there.

If you enjoy...

Lower Sacramento Fly Fishing Report

Dave Neal reports on 8.16.18

The big news in northern California these past few weeks has been
the large wildfires… The Mendocino Complex (largest fire in
modern CA history) and the Carr Fire (6 th most devastating fire)
along w/ two others - the Hat Fire and Hirz Fire burning near Hat
Creek/Fall River and McCloud River arm of Lake Shasta, respectively.

The Carr Fire, which devastated areas to the west...

California Delta Fly Fishing Report

Capt. Bryce Tedford reports on 8.16.18

Mixed it up a bit this week with Topwater Smallmouth in the North Delta & Stripers in the main Delta. Smallmouth action slowed up a bit this week but found a bunch of Schoolie Stripers taking baitfish on the surface. In addition to the Smallmouth & Stripers, Topwater Largemouth can be good the first few hrs of morning or last few hours of the day.

Hard to beat...

Monterey Bay Fly Fishing Report

Evan Praskin reports on 8.16.18

While we were gone the fishing remained good in the Monterey Bay. Some really nice fish have been caught within the bay as well as up the Pacific coast. Most are not seeing numbers, but the fish that are being caught are not little. Our good friend Ken Oda @kenoda870 beached a whale of a striper this past week that must of been one heck of a battle!

The monsters are...
