Fishing Report

Eastern Sierra Fly Fishing Report

Jim Stimson Reports on 7/6/2017

I hope everybody had a safe and sane 4th of July. We spent the evening drinking beer and wine with friends, feasting on homemade elk sausage, BBQ’d chicken, potato and fruit salads. Then a campfire was lit and we raised our glasses to salute our good fortunes of health, happiness, friends and family as the fireworks lit up the sky above Crowley Lake. Happy Fourth!

American River Fly Fishing Report

Shad and Stripers are the quarry right now. Fishing is just ok with the best fishing being in very late afternoon to evening hours. Floating is going to be the best bet, but at 3500 cfs there are plenty of wade options, but the bikini hatch is in full swing so you might find it hard to get some solitude. If you are going to float sunrise to sailor would be a good way to go.

Upper Sacramento Fishing Report

LCO Reports 7/6/2017

A great year to be on the Upper Sacramento River. It’s going to be hard to catch fish unless you find shade or wait until the evening. You will find fish looking up in the evening. If you can’t find shade during the day your next best bet will be to high stick fast or deep water.

Yosemite Report

Yosemite Outfitters Reports on 7/1/2017

Things are starting to shape up. After this heat melted things down more we are getting to fish our waters, though still high they are shaping up.

We are looking to the Stanislaus as our best fishery!

Mokelumne-  Snags are taken care of and drifting is good.

Stanislaus- Hell’s Kitchen, and small streams are your best bet.
Below Goodwin Dam - 2,800 CFS - Too high...

Tioga Pass opened, finally. Now, if they could get the road open down to Devils’s Postpile and the San Joaquin River, we could get on with summer.

There is a “yuge” amount of water being shuttled about, particularly to the north. The East Walker has blown out to over 1500 cfs, the highest levels in over 15 years. The Twin Lakes Reservoirs are releasing water...

McCloud River Fly Fishing Report

Wild Waters Reports on 7/5/2017

The McCloud has gone through some changes the last couple weeks. Word got out, that she was fishing well and the McCloud became the McCrowd. There was a day when over 25 people came in and out of the Preserve on the same day. It became difficult to find spots not hit by anglers moments before. Our tactics had to get fine tuned. I can’t tell all our readers what to do...

Truckee River Fly Fishing Report

Matt “Gilligan” Koles Reports on 4/6/2017

Flows have finally come down below 1,500 k on the Truckee River.

Kinda figured if was going to be right around the 4th when flows would drop. The river is still high at 1,500 k, but way more forgiving than what it was. It should keep dropping steadily.

There has been major mud pumping in from Grays Creek, making the entire lower river chocolate milk since...

Steve Santucci Reports on 7/6/2017

Great Striper Fishing at San Luis Reservoir.  Catching good numbers of quality fish with most fish between 5 and 12lbs.   They are hitting Clousers or Deciever patterns in the 4 inch range.  The fish are super strong and in good shape.

The Delta has good Smallmouth fishing in the North Delta region.  Small flies are working best.  We caught most of our fish subsurface.  You can catch fish on topwater flies but it’s fishing best under the surface on a type 6 sink rate.  I am using T-11.

Northern Sierra Fly Fishing Report

The surge of Africa hot weather a few weeks ago and continued warmer weather has water temps at both Lake Davis and Frenchman’s Lakeexcessively high with surface temps reaching 74 degrees. Its game over until fall, releasing trout when the water is that warm usually means it’s their last fight. One option at Lake Davis though is targeting bass for the next few...

Lower Sacramento Striper Report & Lower Yuba Report

Hogan Brown Reports on 7/6/2017

Lower Sacramento River Striper Fishing - The Lower Sac continues to crank out good numbers of keeper size stripers and a few double digit fish over the last week. We also hooked a true trophy that we lost in a big snag…kinda par for course when fishing the river. Clarity in certain areas is still an issue as a few banks are still coming down and washing mud into the...
