Pyramid Lake Update

Lost Coast Outfitters reports on 2.16.17

It seems there’s hope that Pyramid may open sooner rather than later. We’ve heard a few rumors and the following is from a KTVN News report, “Tribe officials hope to have the lake reopened for recreation by April. The council is working on a plan to open with limited access, with details announced at the end of the week.” What, “limited access” means is hard...

Pyramid Lake Update

John Fochetti reports on 2.2.17

The lake is still closed and the tribe issued a press release today stating that there will be no refunds given for permits. While this may anger some people think about a few things: First, the tribe needs our support and money to get the lake back to a safe place to fish. Second, this is due to weather, something that is out of anyone’s control. If you bought a...

Pyramid Lake Fly Fishing Report

Supposedly there is going to be a press release coming out explaining the lake is closed until sometime in April. The road washouts are not going to be easy to fix. Hopefully, they can get up to speed quickly as Pyramid lake is an important part of the local economy up there.  We will keep you posted.

Pyramid Closure Update

John Fochetti reports on 1.19.17

The Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe says Pyramid Lake remains closed to fishing and other recreational activities.

Permits are not being sold to allow fishing at this time.

The Tribe says Sutcliffe is still without most utilities and State Route 446 remains closed due to several washouts from Nixon to Sutcliffe. The docks at Pelican Point have been severely damaged, and...

Truckee River & Pyramid Lake Fly Fishing Report

Gilligan reports on 1.5.17

image

First report for ’17, and all I can say is heavy, heavy dumpage of snow here for the Truckee River.

The storm door has opened. We have over a foot here in the Hirsch, which is good for us. We get shadowed a lot and have more cold than snow usually. Up on top of the hill they have been getting pounded! We could get all of our seasons snow in just this one week- if it works...

Truckee River and Pyramid Fly Fishing Report

Matt Koles Reports on 12.1.2016

Looking and feeling a lot like winter on the ole Truckee River and Pyramid Lake in Nevada.

We had some pretty good snowfall and temps are for continued cold in our area.

The Truckee River is still about the same as last post. Flows are about 225 cubes here in the Hirsch and bit higher down into Nevada. Winter fishing folks. Trouts have moved into slower deeper water....

Truckee River Fly Fishing Report

Matt Koles Reports 11.24.16

It’s more winter than fall on the Truckee River and Pyramid Lake Nevada.

Cold and snow and rain, hopefully it will keep coming.

Good news for both venues as the weather helps the fishing. Cold cloudy days are better than cold sunny days. Just is.

On the Truckee River we’ve been getting into some, not a lot, but some. Those some are usually big this time of year. Trouts...

Pyramid Lake Fly Fishing Report

Doug Ouellette Reports on 11.24.2016

The numbers of 15 pound plus Lahontan cutthroat trout this November of 2016 at Pyramid Lake Nevada has been the biggest numbers of big fish since their extrapolation in 1939. Several double digit fish have been recorded this month. These monster trout have been caught on a daily basis. Although the numbers of fish per angler hours are a bit low, the numbers of...
