Matt Koles, Gilligan’s Guide Service
Pyramid Lake has been much like the Truckee River. High pressure= stagnant fishing. If you have some weather/ wind the fishing usually is descent. It has been mainly a first light and evening bite. There has been some really big fish caught in the afternoons over the last few weeks, mainly off the shooting heads on black buggers and popcorn beetles. Look for fishing to improve as we head into spring. We had a great clinic out at the lake yesterday with a 15 pounder and 10 pounder caught. Look for a few more clinics in the next couple of months.
I had a very busy January of guiding, thank you those that came out and fished with me. Maybe it was the smoking deal with the winter rates, or maybe the skiing sucked and there was nothing better to do. I’d like to stay busy so I’ll be offering some good deals for the month of February too. $250.00 for a half day, and $350 for a full day. I guide in Ca, and Nevada and all trips include flies.

This week at Pyramid was very tough throughout the daylight hours when there was little or no wind and bright sunny skies. First light and the evening grab has been producing some BIG fish. This week we released a 21 ½ Pounda! 34 ¾ in. It took a #8 popcorn beetle while retrieving it on a RIO Outbound Custom line. On Saturday Jan 31, Matt “Gilligan” Koles and I held another Killer Clinic. During the clinic our clients released a 15 pounder and a 10 ½ pounder along with a few shakers. In our clinics we concentrate on teaching the most productive techniques for Pyramid Lake. For an unmatched educational clinic come join us for our next one. Check our “Clinics” page for more info. Check out our BLOG page for pictures of the clinic. www.pyramidlakeguideservice.com* Today 2/2/15 the fishing was very good from 2:45pm until dark because of a surprise storm that came through. We spend a lot of time on the water to give you the most accurate first hand reports available.
