Russian River Fly Fishing Report

Rob Russell Reports on 1.18.2017

As of this post, rain is falling in the watershed and the river is forecast to begin rising overnight. Flows had dropped and stabilized with a nice green color and 4-5 ft of visibility near Healdsburg, and 2-3 ft near Guerneville. Tonight’s rain will likely make for rising water, followed by poor clarity, until early next week. We should see an increase in action...

Russian River Fly Fishing report

Russian River Fishing Report 1/8/2018

The Russian River steelhead season has begun! One could rate the steelhead fishing as pretty good before today’s storm, which will muddy it for probably a week. This is always tough to predict, and silt loads (muddy water) should be increased due to large areas of the watershed having burned. The North Bay will be under a Flash Flood watch in the next...

Russian River Alert

Have you noticed more people catching salmon in the Russian River this winter?

This doesn’t necessarily mean there are more adult fish returning. It’s more likely because they are confined to the mainstem of the river due to lower than average seasonal flow conditions. Coho salmon and steelhead spawn in tributaries to the Russian River, and while there has been just enough rain this fall to allow...

Russian River Fly Fishing Report

Rob Russell Reports on 12.14.2017

Fishing is just starting/slow. Flows are low and the water is clear. Rain is desperately needed to keep the mouth open and fish coming in. Fish have been trickling in and moving around the lower river with more arriving each day. They are spooky and have seen a bit of pressure. It’s still worth a try on the Lower Russian!! Fish are being caught/ are in the river....

Russian River Fly Fishing Report

Rob Russell Reports on 11.20.2017

December usually marks the arrival of the first steelhead in the Russian.  However, there have been a few half-pounders and adults already caught this year.  Flows are low at this time, and could fall below 300 cfs in Guerneville by the weekend. This will bring about a low-flow closure.  Please call the low-flow hotline 707-944-5533before you decide to fish the...

Local Surf Fishing Report

Surf Fishing Report 8.4.2017

Surf fishing has been good for perch, Stripers, and Halibut. The key is to go and go often. Conditions play a big roll so look for low winds and surf. Surf fishing is all about being at the right place at the right time.

Bay & Coastal Fly Fishing Report

Lost Coast Outfitters reports on 5.11.17

Someone dropped a striper bomb on the bay this week. We received multiple good reports from Marin and a few from north Alameda Co. Lots of schoolies around and a few bigger dudes. Crissy Field, literally in SF, is cranking out stripers and perch. This is seriously cool, urban fishing. Not many places in the world you can do it like this, and nowhere else can...
