Fishing The North Coast Reports on 2.7.2017:

Following another week of heavy rain and soaring river levels, green water is finally on the horizon for two of the quick-clearing coastal rivers. Sunshine is in the forecast for the weekend, and Monday and Tuesday are looking dry as well. For steelhead anglers, this means both the Smith and Chetco will be on the drop and heading towards greener waters....

Looks like Monday and Tuesday will be the days to be out there. We have heard there is a slide on the South Fork of Eel. We Are driving up today and will hopefully get eyes on the slide. The Smith will be the main coastal system in shape for the weekend and many smaller faster-clearing systems should come into shape at the earliest Sunday into Monday-Tuesday-Wed. I suspect by Thursday or Friday...

We managed to find some clear water and chrome fish this weekend. Out of respect to my friends who found this spot several years ago I am bound not to discuss it’s whereabouts and can take no credit in finding this spot. I hope you understand. Anything I find on my own I am happy yo share with you, but I am not the guy who gives up his buddies secret fishing spots.

The Lower Sac is on her way up to 20k cubes by Wednesday afternoon. The combination of big flows and winter is usually the perfect recipe for running into some of the biggest fish in the river.

We are getting a lot more precipitation up north here than we’ve been used to the past few years. It’s stayed nice and cold for us too to keep some of that snow up in the higher elevations. As much as it hurts having to cancel trips in the winter due to rivers blowing out - It’s nice to know that this rain and snow is ensuring us a good spring and summer water...

Conditions are prime!

Russian River a little high and about 1 foot of vis but fish have already been caught. 

Smith River I have heard of a number of fish caught on the Smith.

The recent and future storms this weekend will likely have most of the north coast blown out, but we have been hearing early reports of fish in many of the north coasts rivers. Pretty cool since normally we don’t start fishing until closer to the new year.
