Rogue River Fly Fishing Report

Jim Andras reports on 2.8.2018

I understand that fly fishing in winter does not appeal to everyone. Compared to fall, anglers face greater variability in weather and water that can create less comfortable conditions and heighten the challenge. For some, thoughts of winter conditions and shiny steelhead circulate continuously throughout the year in anticipation of their arrival. Well, they’re here....

Delta Fly Fishing Report

Steve Santucci reports on 2.8.2017

Delta Striper fishing is pretty good with good numbers and the average size is between the 3 and 5 pounds.  The water temperatures are close to 53.  The water temps will probably rise with this weeks forcast of 70 degree air temperatures.  This can only help the bite.  We are catching them with the same large  5 inch flies.

Eastern Sierra Fly Fishing Report

Jim Stimson Reports on 2.8.2018

Perhaps there will be a change in the weather the end of February? We will see. In spite of the drought like conditions in the Eastern Sierra, the weather has been spectacular; unseasonably warm and dry. I am not advocating wet wading yet, but fishing midwinter in light clothing is kind of nice. The morning temperatures on the Upper Owens are dipping into the 20’s...

Lower Sacramento and Trinity Fly Fishing Report

Dave Neal Reports on 2.8.2018

Despite the fact we REALLY need some rain and snow to fall in Northern California I cannot complain with the weather lately. These past few weeks have been PERFECT fishing weather (that is if “perfect” means mild, cool-to-warm, with an abundance of sunny afternoons, temps in the 70’s).

As an added bonus our local rivers have not been particularly busy lately. Many of...

Lower Sac And Trinity River Report

AC Fly Fishing Reports on 1.25.2018

The Lower Sac is still sitting at 4k cubes - ideal for winter trout fishing. It has been a very good option for scratching the winter trout itch. Mid-day hatches of Baetis and various other Mayflies (March Browns included) have been getting the fish grabby. We are only a month or so away from seeing the first big (Brachycentrus) Caddis hatches of the year. If you...

It looks like North Coast Rivers Could start pulling into shape by next weekend with the more southern rivers coming into shape as this early as Sat or Sunday.

The rain models we show are crushing Washington and Oregon while just hitting the northwest of CA.

Truckee River Fly Fishing Report

Matt “Gilligan” Koles Reports on 1.22.2018

Cold is kinda the word.Just been cold this last week on the Truckee River. Water temps are stuck in the mid 30’s. Not that easy when the water gets that cold. Trouts move back in the frog water with cold water temps.

We’ll see what this week brings. Maybe a few feet of snow? I hope. Then we look to dry out again?

So for now look for water that’s moving at a...

Lower Yuba River Fly Fishing Report

Jon Baiocchi Reports on 1.25.2018

The Yuba River has been insane during the last week, big hatches, dry flies, and rising trout. It’s why I moved from Graeagle down to the foothills. The perfect winter arena. Small weather systems have the flows bouncing up and down. Not enough to blow the river out, and even though the water clarity is stained, the Yuba River is fishing well. Currently the flows...

Putah Creek Fly Fishing Report

Richard loft reports on 1.25.2018

Hey everyone I just wanted to check in and let you all know whats going on at Putah Creek this month. Flows are still really low between 63 and 55 cfs hardly worth the effort but I have still need to keep doing a little fishing here and there just to keep up my game. Making sure to stay away from the spawning grounds at #3, Deer sign and the Bridge while still...
