Matt “Gilligan” Koles Reports on 1.22.2018

Cold is kinda the word.Just been cold this last week on the Truckee River. Water temps are stuck in the mid 30’s. Not that easy when the water gets that cold. Trouts move back in the frog water with cold water temps.
We’ll see what this week brings. Maybe a few feet of snow? I hope. Then we look to dry out again?
So for now look for water that’s moving at a slow walking pace about 3-6 feet deep. Hit them with eggs, worms, small dark mayflies, midges. The streamer bite has been extremely slow for me with these cold water temps. If you do fish streamers slow down your retrieves.
December/January are always the coldest months of the year. You can have some good days out on the river and some slow days. Water temps are cold and trouts can be lethargic. Just how it is. We don’t have any anchor ice or access issues due to snow so get out and enjoy some winter fishing.
