Lower Yuba River Fly Fishing Report
Jon Baiocchi Reports on 1.25.2018
The Yuba River has been insane during the last week, big hatches, dry flies, and rising trout. It’s why I moved from Graeagle down to the foothills. The perfect winter arena. Small weather systems have the flows bouncing up and down. Not enough to blow the river out, and even though the water clarity is stained, the Yuba River is fishing well. Currently the flows are on the rise and with the precipitation amounts forecasted, the river will be blown for a few days. Dry fly fishing is off the charts. BWOs, PMDs, Gray Drakes, Skwala stones, and a few March Browns – Yeah, March Browns in January. The Yuba River is truly a freak show. Some bigger fish are showing up, an 18 incher was hooked in a skinny side channel last Monday during our Yuba Tour outing. Lance Gray and I have a new date of March 1st for a Yuba Tour if you are interested. What else can I say, its game on! See you out there… Jon Baiocchi
