Russian River Fly Fishing Report

@vanschyndel Reports on 9.14.2017

My wife and I took a break from the heat last weekend to float the Russian river and chase some smallmouth. We floated the section just below Healdsburg, taking our time floating one of the more remote sections of the river. The fishing was excellent, with endless hookups of smallmouth in addition to the occasional Pikeminnow. We were even surprised by a school of...

Eastern Sierra Fly Fishing Report

Jim Stimson Reports on 9.7.2017

Ahhh…. Labor Day has come and gone; the traffic in Mammoth and the highway has faded, and autumn is beginning to settle into the Eastern Sierra. I love this time of year…. change is in the air. There is a hint of color in the trees and the morning air is crisp. Oh! And the fishing has greatly improved. There are still issues with fires to the north. Check the link...

McCloud River Fly Fishing Report

Brian “bucko” Theriot Reports on 9.7.2017

We have finally seen the hot weather snap and are getting cooler days up here in Mount Shasta-which is amazing! The McCloud River should definitely be one of your top choices right now and for the remainder of the fishing season. The McCloud is kicking out big browns and we are seeing a good amount of people catching them. The main attraction for fly...

Fall Stillwater Prognosis

Jon Baiocchi Reports on 9.7.2017

Fall may be coming, but it sure doesn’t feel like it with triple digit temperatures in the greater central valley and foothills. Record highs were shattered in the past week, even coastal areas like San Francisco, and Ukiah. Hopefully this will be the end of a very hot summer. The fall season on Sierra stillwaters is the best time of the year for the fly angler....

Truckee Fly Fishing Report

Matt “Gilligan” Koles Reports 9/7/2017

The last hurrah of summer. Hopefully everyone had a great Labor Day Weekend.
A very hot weekend up here in Tahoe/Reno on the Truckee River. I had 2 clinics this weekend, so thanks for everyone that participated. Hopefully you got something out of it.

We can start thinking about fall fishing now. It’s suppose to cool some this week. Highs should be back down in...

Delta Fly Fishing Report

Steve Santucci Reports on 9/7/2017

All species including Stripers, Largemouths, and Smallmouths are transitioning into their fall feeding patterns.

We have been using larger flies to catch the larger Stripers and discourage the smaller fish. There are some jumbo Stripers in the system and the larger fly will give you a better chance for success. Its time to fish and allow the wind to dictate where...

Local Striper Fishing

9.1.2017

Fishing has been good on the beaches and in the bay on high tide. High tide fishing can be tough because fish tend to be a bit more spread out. Look for channels and creek to help condense the fish you will hook more. The warm weather has the bay super glassy! It’s a great time to spot boiling fish.

Trinity River Fishing Report

9.1.2017

The Trinity River was fishing well before the Helana fire erupted just a few days ago. This fire is in a very bad place and has already burned 130 structures. Our thoughts and prayers are with our friends and family who live in the area and are battling the fire.

Pit River Fly Fishing Report

9.1.2017

We just had some buddies come back from fishing the pit. Fish are focused on small mayflies in the morning 16′s and 18′s and switching to caddis in the after.

Also try fishing a few larger Isonychia Nymphs as fish we liking these too. A number of rattlesnakes were spotted so be careful!

Upper Sac & McCloud Fly Fishing Reports

Ted Fays Fly Shop Reports on 8.30.2017

The worm is turning on our local rivers and the Dog Daze of Summer is being shown the door. We are seeing some very nice fish being brought to the net on the McCloud, Upper Sacramento and Pit Rivers. The days are getting shorter and the nights are getting cooler, just the recipe for waking up the fish and turning up their taste buds. Hatches still have to wait...
