North Fork Yuba River Fly Fishing Report

Jon Baiocchi Reports on 7.28.2016

The North Fork Yuba River has been fishing extremely well, so good in fact you could say it’s on fire. Water temperatures in the upper watershed are running 55 to 61 degrees. Lower down near Downieville the water temps are at 59 to 66 degrees. I just completed eight trips back to back and I’m very in tune with the current conditions. Water levels have dropped a tad...

Awesome striper fishing on the Yuba this week!
We are getting almost as many stripers in a day, as we did shad during the height of the shad run. No huge fish, but what a blast! Flows are low, and super clear. Many times we can see stripers chase and take the fly!

North Fork Yuba River Fly Fishing Report

Jon Baiocchi Reports on 7.15.2016

The North Fork Yuba River has been fishing very well from morning to early afternoon, then for the evening hatch. Water temps in the upper watershed are still on the cold side from 56 to 61 degrees, they will be a little higher the more one travels downstream. I’m very surprised how much water is still flowing down the river for the middle of July, and in the...

North Fork Yuba Fly Fishing Report

Jon Baiocchi / Baiocchi’s Troutfitters Reports on 7.6.2016

North Fork Yuba River - Conditions are perfect right now for the most beautiful watershed in all of California. The North Fork screams fun fishing, boulder hopping, dry flies, and solitude. Water temps are ranging from 56 to 61 degrees. Dry / dropper rigs are best, or for the evening hatch just go with a single fly like Ralph’s E/C Caddis...

Lower Sac Striper Report

Hogan Brown Reports on 6.23.2016

Before I left the weather was all over the place…rain, wind, cold, and very little warm weather. I was actually in my Simms Pro Dry suit for about 3-4 days which I literally had to dig out of my closet being June! The up and down weather really affects the stripers from my experience and the barometric shifts and cooler water temps slows them down…that said there...

North/Central Valley Fly Fishing Report

Brian Celmens Reports on 6/2/2016

Wow, where has this year gone, April was EPIC, May was here and gone with some more great fishing, now we are in June and the fishing is really good too. I know I say this a lot, but you should really be out on the water and enjoying some great fishing.

Here is your Local June Fishing Report:

Yuba Shad Report

Dave Barbieri Reports on 5.18.2016

Yuba Shad fishing is on fire right now! On the warmer days we are into unbelievable numbers of fish. I’m doing drift boat trips from Daguerre Dam, down about 7 miles to our property near Marysville. Flows are on the high side at 2200 CFS with the water temps optimum. If they stay there I predict it will prolong the shad season. I have few openings left for the...

Lower Yuba Shad Report

Dave Barbieri Reports on 5.4.2016

Great shad fishing on the Yuba right now! Just expected to see some shad today, and maybe pick off one or two. Did not expect to hook into a bunch. It’s pretty early for the shad bite on the Yuba. It usually doesn’t start until late May - early June, but it’s on! Got some nice females too, including this one. We even got a funny looking shad with stripes on the...

Northern Sierra Fishing Report

Jon Baiocchi Reports on 4.20.2016

The Truckee River is fishing pretty well right now, and the flows are dropping into shape. The Glenshire stretch is at 220 cubes, and the upper canyon is running at 625 cfs, a tad higher down by Floriston. With higher flows, fish the side water first before venturing out. All of the fish last week were in deeper slower water next to the main flow/seam. Flesh Juan...

Lower Sac, Yuba and Feather Fly Fishing report

Hogan Brown Reports on 4.13.2016

So, the weather is all over the place…imagine that it is spring in Nor-Cal. Brings me back to days when we actually had a spring. 80 degrees and gorgeous to 55 cold and rainy in the span of 48 hours. Makes for interesting fishing this really optimistic attitude for May through September to be honest. Last year about this time weather was gorgeous, and had been for a...
