Lower Sacramento River Fly Fishing Report

Anthony Carruesco reports on 4.5.18

We’ve had exceptional fishing on the Lower Sacramento River this week. The bigger fish in the river have been showing themselves. Often. Flows are still low and there are still plenty of opportunities to get out of the boat and wade fish.

Here is a short video of a day out this week with a client that wanted to wade fish.

Lower Sac Fly Fishing Report

Anothny Carruesco reports on 3.30.17

Lower Sac

The Lower Sac is currently flowing low and clear at 3,000 cubes. The fishing has been good, especially for those with a very quick hammer. Fish aren’t sticking around long to chew on your fly right now. There are little pockets and windows throughout the day that the fishing can be very good and there can be some lulls just the same. Overall there are...

Upper/Lower Sacramento River Fly Fishing Report

Rick Cox reports on 3.29.18

Upper & Lower Sac

The hatches are firing up on both rivers offering a wide variety of insects. You can expect to see Caddis, a variety of Mayflies, Stones and my favorite the good ole Salmonfly (USac) showing themselves. This is the time of year that the switch goes off and the fish come out to play. The perfect recipe for rising water temps, bugs popping and warming days...

What a difference of weather in just the flip of a week. We went from cold,
overcast and wet to warm and sunny with record afternoon temps in the 80’s.
Last week the overcast conditions created some stellar bwo and pmd mayfly
action. On any given day under the cloud, cover fish were spotted sipping
mayfly emergers and taking duns on the surface. This presented...

Lower Sac Fly Fishing Report

Anthony Carruesco reports on 3.22.18

Lower Sac

The Lower Sac has been a little fickle recently. With that being said we’ve had two consecutive days of “lights out good” fishin’ in the dark, wet weather. Don’t get your feelings hurt if you don’t have a bunch of fish to the net before lunch right now. Be patient for a little later bite. Fish have gotten very quick to grab and drop the fly over the...

Lower Sac Fly Fishing Report

Dave Neal reports on 3.16.18

Lower Sac

We’ve been getting pounded this week with rain along with an
impressive amount of snowfall accumulation in the higher mountain
areas above Redding. This precip is desperately needed all over the
State and it’s good to see that many regions in CA received their fair
share. We’ll take as much as Mother Nature is willing to dish out.
As for fishing this week… I dodged...

Lower Sac Fly Fishing Report

Anthony Carruesco reports on 3.16.18

Lower Sac

The Lower Sac has showed us some extremely good fishing since the last update. Hatches of PMDs and spring Caddis have been driving the fishing most days. The last few days out; the hatches have started to wane quite a bit with fewer and fewer bugs coming off. The fish have certainly gotten a little bit quicker so having a ninja quick set will do you...

Lower Sac and Feather River Fly Fishing Report

Ryan Johnston reports on 3.16.18

Lower Sac

The fishing on the Sac continues to impress. The amount of bugs coming off right now is really impressive. From spring caddis, to March Browns, to PMDs, and even baetis in the mix there are all kinds of food in the drift right now to get those rainbows fat and happy. The best part is that we are getting some legitimate dry fly fishing in every day right...

AC Fly Fishing Reports on 3.8.2017

As we roll into March, the trout fishing on the Lower Sacramento River is starting to fire on all cylinders. The past few days of trout fishing have been as good as you will ever see out here. The hatches of BWOs, PMDs, and Spring Caddis have been spectacular. We’ve had more trout looking up to rise to the dry fly than I can remember in a long time. If there were...
