Rick Cox of Ted Fays Fly Shop Reports :

Rain and snow on Mt. Shasta, what a great start to fall here so far and more forecast the next 7 days … we will take what what we can get. Unfortunately the McCloud has gone out again which I thought it would. The pictures tell the sad story, only time and mother nature have control on when we can get back on this river. The Upper Sac on the other hand is...

Rio InTouch Fly Lines Review

Rio InTouch Fly Lines Review
image
Imagine a fly fishing product that made casting easier and allowed you to set the hook more efficiently. Well, that is just what Rio’s new connectcore does. I rarely will make the claim that a product will help you catch more fish. That is unless… it’s true. Rio’s all new InTouch Series of lines will do just that.
As my dear friend Bill Lowe used to...

Feather River Fly Fishing Report

Dave Barbieri, Dave Barbieri Guide Service

The Feather has been hit and miss. Some days are extremely good, and others have been slow. Salmon are still very thick in the Low Flow, which makes it a challenge to get through to the steelhead,  but it can be done!  We are taking fish on eggs, BWO’s and caddis. Flows for the Low Flow are at 900 cfs. The High Flow is at 1500 cfs.

Yuba River Fly Fishing Report

Dave Barbieri, Dave Barbieri Guide Service

Fishing on the Yuba was excellent this week! We have been picking up most fish on eggs lately, but also getting a fair amount of fish on caddis, PMD, and BWO dry flies. Caddis dries have been working especially well in the evening. The smallest trout, shown in the picture below, looked like it was attacked by a raptor! There were vertical cut marks on...

Klamath River Fly Fishing Report

Anthony Carruesco, AC Fly Fishing

They might not be biggest steelhead in the world, but there are a lot of them in the Klamath River system this year – and I’ve yet to see a fin clipped hatcher fish. There were a lot of cookie cutter steelhead put in the net the past few days. If you don’t have your winter steelhead dates reserved yet, get on it. This December and January should be very good up...

Trinity River Fly Fishing Report

Aaron Gabriel, The Northern California Guide

The Trinity is looking great this year, and with both the Lower Trinity and the Lower Klamath full of fish it is going to be a fun steelhead season. I have no availability in Nov. and it will be crowded in Nov. I do have openings in Dec-Feb and there will be plenty of fish then and with fewer anglers on the water. It often ends up being even better...

Lower Sacramento Fly Fishing Report

Dave Neal, Reel Adventures Guide Service

The Lower Sacramento River has been lights this week! Colder nights and cooler daytime temps, along with some much-needed rain have kicked the Chinook salmon spawn into high gear. It finally feels like fall. From the Posse Grounds to Cottonwood the big kings are doing their thing and the fishing is a version of angler trick or treating – sometimes they get...

Pyramid Lake Fly Fishing Report

Matt Koles, Gilligan’s Guide Service

Fly fishing at Pyramid Lake is just starting to get going. The first week after the opener was awesome, then it got a bit slow, it now seems to be going the other way again. Fish are still stuck in about 20-40 feet of water. The trollers are slaying them, the fly fisher, well, it’s almost our time. Float tubes and boats are still best to access deeper water,...

Lake Davis Fly Fishing Report

Jon Baiocchi, Baiocchi Troutfitters

Fishing is just fair to average, when in reality we should be reaching the peak of the fall grab – which has never even materialized…..yet. There is still hope, and with that I still believe there is going to be a short hot bite to experience. So what’s preventing the historically good fishing the lake is known for in fall? Fish are deeper than normal and...
