Valley Striper Fly Fishing Report

Capt. Chuck Regan reports on 6.21.17

Striper on the fly is heating up and there’s still plenty of shad to go around in our Nor Cal rivers.  The American, Feather, Yuba and Sac have all be producing great and the weather is gorgeous.

Lower Yuba Fly Fishing Report

Hogan Brown Reports on 3.9.2018

Been guiding the Lower Yuba River lately…river came up from 850cfs to 2500ish cfs this last weekend but has sense dropped down to 850cfs again. Fishing was fair at the high flows as there was some color and fishing off color water rigs and such was catching some fish higher in the float but about middway down fishing more of what the fish were eating was necessary as...

In the last week the flows came up dramatically on the Lower Yuba River during and after our biggest storm of the winter season. The river topped out at 3,188 cubes which is a perfect flushing flow with no harm done. Deer creek ran as high as 1,870 cfs and as always pumped in a lot of dirty water. Currently the Yuba River is at 959 cubes and there is just a tinge of...

Yuba River Fly Fishing Report

Jordan Romney Reports on 2.28.2017

The dry fly fishing on the Yuba in 2018 has been the best i’ve ever seen.  Sure the fish are smaller than normal but the action is incredible.  The average size fish has increased lately to about 12-13 inches.  We’ve hooked, landed, and lost a few better ones too.

I haven’t been seeing a ton of skwalas but my view is skewed. I see the river from a boat and do not...

Lower Yuba Fly Fishing Report

Jon Baiocchi Reports on 2.8.2018

Winter is the new summer lately. Hard to believe it’s the first week of February, above normal temperatures with bright sunny skies. I really like it, but fear the next to nothing snowpack in the Sierra. We need more snow, with high water content, or things will be bleak this coming summer and fall. Pray for a March miracle. The Lower Yuba River still amazes me with...

Yuba River Fly Fishing Report

Jon Baiocchi reports on 1.17.2018

Current conditions on the Lower Yuba River have the flows back down to 1,070 cubes, and the water has some color to it with about 3 feet of visibility to it. Deer and Squirrel creeks are running fairly clear for the most part so the source of stained water derives from the upper forks of the Yuba River entering Englebright reservoir. 3 feet of visibility is all...

Yuba River Fly Fishing Report

Jon Baiocchi Reports on 1.12.2018

The flows have dropped to 1,096 cubes on the Lower Yuba River. Water clarity is 2 feet and clearing. It should be a nice weekend on the river before more rain arrives.

Jon Baiocchi Reports on 1.10.2018

She’s blown! Report below, pictures attached.

The dominate ridge of high pressure finally left the west coast allowing for the storm door to open last week. We got a...

Yuba Dry Fly Game

It has been a pretty incredible start to the year on the Lower Yuba.  This has been the best winter dry fly fishing I have ever seen when it comes to the action.  I think a lot has to do with the weather we had all December.  The warm days produced great hatches of the BWOs.   The fish responded well.

Lately it has stayed steady until this week....

Lower Yuba Fly Fishing Report

Jon Baiocchi Reports on 1.4.2018

Happy New Year! The Lower Yuba River has been on auto pilot for that past 3 weeks or more with bright and warm sunny weather, and the occasional hazy day. The winter solstice has come and gone, and the days grow longer from this point forward. Flows have been on auto pilot as well running right around 1060 cubes, though on Tuesday they dropped it to 977 cfs for a...

Lower Yuba Fly Fishing Report

Jon Baiocchi Reports on 12.22.2017

A little cooler temperatures after a quick moving cold front push through last night, Nevada City received about a half inch of precipitation. Sunny skies again today and extremely pleasant weather. The Lower Yuba River is flowing at 1,050 cubes and the clarity remains clear. With the lower flows a walk and wade angler can now cross easily in many sections of the...
