Rogue River Fly Fishing Report

Jim Andras Reports on 8.6.2015

Finally, I have some good news to share regarding fishing the upper Rogue River and wildfire in S. Oregon. I made it out twice last week before the valley became inundated with smoke and brought bright steelhead to hand on both trips. My experiences and reports from other guides point to good numbers of fish in the upper River. Fishing under cloud cover or early/late...

Rogue Fly Fishing Report

The biggest news to report from the upper Rogue River and S. Oregon comes in the form of lower flows and a substantial cool down.  On the 2nd, flows dropped below 2000 cfs and stabilized around 1600 at Dodge Bridge. Air temperatures dipped below 100 and look to stay sub 90 throughout the 7-day forecast. This welcome change will, at the very least, make for more pleasant conditions and should...

Rogue River Fly Fishing Report:

Jim Andras Reports on 7/1/2015:

After an excessively long silence, I figured that July seemed appropriate to reenter LCO’s weekly reports for two reasons. First, Rachel and I just wrapped up two weeks of our fly fishing camps for kids and were once again encouraged and impressed by the enthusiasm and skill of our 15 campers. These kids can cast, fish, tie flies and their natural curiosity for...

Just wrapping up what has been an epic steelhead season on the Klamath, Rogue, Trinity and coastal rivers. There is certainly still some fishing to be had for these special brutes. Up next we start segwaying into trout fishing on the Lower Sacramento and Upper Sacramento Rivers. Rick Cox of Wild Waters Fly Fishing is reporting good results on the Upper Sac...

March has arrived here in Northern California/Southern Oregon and we are seeing the continuation of great steelhead fishing and the uptick in trout fishing on the Lower and Upper Sacramento Rivers. Blooming flowers and trees are offering a color show after their winter hibernation along with mild warmer days. Winter steelhead are continuing to reward those...

Winter Steelhead Report

John Rickard, Wild Water Fly Fishing

As the cold weather comes in, so do the Winter fish. Its time to break out the big guns and the good jackets. So far in our region mother nature has been fair with a good mix of heavy rain followed by some nice Winter sunshine. The Klamath remains in great shape below the dam and tributaries are running clear at the moment. We’ve been spending some time on the...

Rogue River Fly Fishing Report

Jim Andras, Andras Outfitters

“This past week the Rogue River fished really well.  We continue to find steelhead throughout the upper river with the best water conditions above Tou Velle Park.

Flows have actually jumped about 500 cfs and are currently holding just under 2000. This increase brings the river closer to its seasonal norm and it should pull more steelhead upriver. September is right...

Rogue River Fly Fishing Report

Jim Andras, Andras Outfitters

What a difference a week makes. We have experienced some wild weather in S. Oregon this week with wind, rain, lightening and fire! Despite multiple fires burning in the region, unlike last summer, smoke really has not been an issue. Rain this morning dropped temperatures to 10 degrees below normal and both factors should help our firefighters. Fishing remains good on...

Rogue River Steelhead Report

Via Jim Andras, Andras Outfitters

Over the past couple of weeks steelhead have continued to push into the upper Rogue River and accounted for consistent and exciting fly fishing in S. Oregon! The fish in the system right now are the brightest, most aggressive and explosive steelhead we will hook over the coming months and favorable water flows and temperatures still make for a perfect excuse to...
