Fishing Report

The Delta Fly Fishing Report

Jim Stimson, Jim Stimson Fly Fishing

Delta fishing for Stripers has been good.  The water conditions are discolored in many areas. The water is around 64 degrees.  Their are good numbers of pre-spawn fish in the area. Fishing can be really good if you can pick a day with less wind.  Most fishing is done with fast sink and intermediate lines with 5 inch Clouser Minows.

Fishing was good this week for both good sized Stripers and especially Largemouth Bass. The female bass were hitting good in about 10 feet of water. We caught average numbers of keeper Stripers. Water temps dropped to 61 to 63 from 66 or 67. I feel that fishing will remain strong thru May due to the abundance of bait in the Bay and Delta and unfortunate...

Striper fishing cooled off a bit and the fishing was less productive this last week.  Sometimes the fish just move around and they are harder to find.  The large-mouth fishing turned on for me.  Caught some nice ones to 5 lbs. Water temps are around 66 degrees and fish are reported from SF Bay through the Delta up to the lower Sacramento River.

Striper fishing is hot right now.  Most of the small fish are fat and in the 5 to 6lb range.  The larger fish are  in the 8 to 12lb range.  The fishing has been fun and a great time to enjoy Spring time fishing. Largemouth fishing is just starting to turn on.  Available dates: March 16,17, and 21st.

The Delta has been fishing well and clearing once again after recent storms. Water temps are hanging at 59 degrees due to recent north winds. Fishing should peak in March as the Stripers are becoming more aggressive. Clousers between 4 and 5 inches are doing best in Chartruse over white. I like to add a sprinking of Black to give it a more pronounced...

Fishing has been good for us the last couple of weeks. Had a slow period a couple of day’s at the beginning of last week but it picked back up towards the end of the week. The West and North Delta are muddied but the South and East Delta are very fishable. Been getting good numbers with a few nice fish each outing. Water temps are averaging 58 and have...
