Jack Harrison, Fish The Rip
Red Tail surfperch, barred surfperch, Walleye and the occasional schoolie striper have been on my catch list of late. The swell has been too big to fish most days, the long-range forecast is looking grim- showing 8-10ft surf on our local beaches for the rest of the month. The fish are there, the structure is great (and improving with every swell). Fishing the surf with these large swells can be rewarding for the anglers that have no problems casting long distances and wading aggressively. If you’d like to come fish the surf and have limited weekday fishing availability… I would recommend booking your trip 2 or more months out. Spring is a great time to target striped bass in the surf, these fish can range in size from 1- “I think I just hooked a boat” lbs…Fishing for them is not a numbers game- it is a lot of work but the reward is amazing, if you enjoy swinging flies for hard to catch winter steelhead then you may want to come check out the spring fishing for striped bass in the surf.
