Madison River Fly Fishing Report

Oct 16, 20142 min read

Nicholas A. Peterson, NorthShore of the Madison

Well that’s a wrap folks.  This coming Saturday is the last day of my 2014 Montana fly fishing season. I thought that last year was the best year we’d had in five years but this season took the title right away from 2013. I will be on the first thing smoking on Monday morning back to the Bay Area to hopefully crush stripers on the Delta!

Before I do that lets get back to the Madison.  Big streamers and nymphing is the name of the game right now.  You can get the big boys, like the one above, to chase a streamer you are in for the ride of your life! This particular day we did an epic “Blast n’ Cast,” fishing in the morning and upland bird hunting in the afternoon.  With all the state land that is easy access in Montana we are able to offer this to clients who come up during the upland bird season.  The bird hunting this day was a bust but the fishing was on fire!

As winter makes its slow advance toward us we have only a few more chances before it sets in for the next couple of months to get that line tight and rod bent.  After that it is the dream, or the access to the Northern California streams, that keeps us coming back.

We are already starting to book up for the 2015 season so if you are interested drop us a line to reserve your trip of a lifetime!

For all of us here at NorthShore we would like to thank Lost Coast Outfitters for all the support.

See you on the river next year!
