Yuba River and Sac Striper Fly Fishing Report

Captain Ben Thompson reports on July 16th, 2026

Lower Yuba trout report:

Flows are sitting around 1450 cfs and clarity is great. Hopper season is going strong and there are plenty of trout around willing to come to the surface to take a big dry. We have been catching them on tan hoppers with pink legs. Hopper dropper has also been good to get hopper eats and work the skinner water efficiently with nymphs below. For nymphs, we have been catching fish on Rubberlegs, olive pupas, Hot Spots and Strawberries and Cream. Many of the fish are in the riffles, but can still be caught in the deeper runs.

River Stripers report:

Flows are sitting around 7300 and fishing has been good! Snags have moved around since this winter providing catching in new spots and there are a lot of resident fish in the river this year. We have been fishing heavy sinking lines throwing small to medium sized streamers with good success. Fish have been aggressive and we have been getting a lot of doubles. I will be chasing stripers on the river through the end of September and hope to get you out to hunt for them.

My upcoming open dates are August: 1,4,6,8,9,13,16,17,26,28

September: 1,2,4-11,17,22,24,27

November: 4,5,7-12
