Delta Fishing Report:
Summer largemouth & smallmouth bass season is going strong on the CA Delta. Through the summer months I turn my attention to long 1/2 days (5hrs) of chasing topwater largemouth & smallmouth bass. These trips are a great way to introduce newer fly fishers into the sport or for seasoned veterans who just want to have some fun.
For smallmouth, we use 4-5wt rods with floating lines, sz. 6 poppers & work rock walls--these are great trips for getting someone new into the sport. These fish are generally small, but fight hard for their size & are super fun on light tackle. We can stop for coffee or ice cream part way through the trip which is a crowd favorite to break up the day. For largemouth, we use 8 wt rods with floating lines, 2/0 poppers & work heavy cover along rock walls, reeds, weeds, etc. These largemouth trips are more challenging to cast, hook & land the fish but the quarry is generally larger than the smallmouth trip. After the trip, the guide can recommend some great lunch spots to finish out a great morning on the water.
Gear, snacks, water & sodas are all included. Just show up with a fishing license, protective clothing & a fun attitude!
