Lower Sac Striper Fly Fishing Report

Striper fishing has been good the last week on the Lower Sac. There are good numbers of fish in the 18-25” range with a few shots at double digit fish each day for those that put in the casts. We have been getting fish each morning on I-lines and then as the sun gets on the water we switch to the heavy sinking shooting heads.
With the opening of Salmon season, July 16th, the fish will get pushed and moved around which may take a few days to settle. A good salmon run and salmon season are a good thing for striper anglers though, as it pushes fish to the banks and keeps them in the feeding zones throughout the day as the deeper holes are full of aggressive salmon and salmon boats trying to catch them.
As we approach the full moon of July (July 29th), fishing should continue to improve and as we move into August/September we should see some of the best fishing of the season (June-October is prime season for resident fish).
