Yosemite & Surrounding Areas Fly Fishing Report

YosemiteMar 3, 20161 min read

Rick Mazaira of Yosemite Outfitters Reports on 3.3.2016

With the storms pending this week end the best bet for fishing is to check flows on the tailwater rivers below the dams and look for flows around 400cfs huge amounts of silt have come down, and are mucking up the water turbidity is high. The silt is the build up over the last four years of low water, lots of flushing going on.

Now from North to South…

Stanislaus:

Doing well- the higher up the system the better. Nymphs -caddis pupae, hare’s ears and zebra midges from 18 - 20.

Tuolumne:

Flow checking is a must here! Use  Nymphs -caddis pupae, hare’s ears and zebra midges from 18 - 20 if you’re there with a high turbidity flow use larger and brighter, consider UV as well.

Merced:

The worst as far as turbidity and access areas have changed - read all posted signs, parking and access strictly enforced.

Please be sure to check out our website- www.yosemite-outfitters.com for more information!
Cheers,
Rick
