Truckee River Fly Fishing Report

Oct 16, 20141 min read

Matt Heron, Matt Heron Fly Fishing

To be honest, not much has changed in the last week on the Truckee. Fishing continues to be fantastic and bug activity still getting better by the day.  We’re even seeing more October caddis each day along with the usual suspects, BWOs, mahogany duns and midges.
With the stormy, wet weather this week our baetis have popped more than usual, now is the times to fish dries on both rivers, especially the Little Truckee. But you better bring some light tippet, your ‘A’ game and a shot of whiskey if it doesn’t work out. To keep warm of course.
This crappy weather also means streamers, and I’m not talking a size 10 olive wooly bugger. Bring a sink tip, your favorite 7wt, and do some work.
Our amazing guide staff still has a few openings for the second half of October but they are filling up quickly. Shoot us a call or email any time, we would love to get you on the water.
