Truckee River Fly Fishing Report

Truckee RiverNov 10, 20161 min read

Matt Gilligan Koles Reports on 11.10.2016

High pressure is dominating our weather for the first week of November,  outlook is for continued sunshine until maybe a pattern change before T-giving.

So that’s good for the fishing on the river. Obviously warm days this time of year are better than cold ones. Good for the nymphing, not so good for the streamer fishing, or dry fly fishing. Flows are really good for this time of year on the Truckee River, 320 in the Hirsch, and a bit higher below. Kinda normal to above normal late fall flows.

For the fishing right now. The nymph rig is your friend on these sunny fall days. Rubber legs, worms, eggs, and beatis patterns. Fish are moving into slower deeper water, maybe not so in NV, but yes in CA. Good fishing to be had still on the river. In fact we fish year round on the Truckee River. Sometimes we do better in the winter than in the summer, mainly because fish will pile into more predictable spots. Slower deeper water.

The Little Truckee is back down again. I’m not so hyped on the flows out there so I haven’t been picking on those fish this fall.

Pyramid Lake has been fishing very well the last few weeks with the inclement weather. High pressure has set in so I imagine it will be a early and late bite until we see some weather.
