Monterey Fly Fishing Report
Evan Praskin reports on 3.29.18
The stripers are finally starting to show in the Monterey Bay area! Its been a delayed season, but we are all hoping it really turns on in the following weeks. The perch bite remains strong and should be great for the weekend! Large numbers of bait are being worked in some areas close enough to shore for a shot at some active feeders. Watch for birds diving and disturbances are the water and work those areas.

Remember to keep moving if you don’t have success after a good handful of casts, covering the beach will greatly increase your chances. High tide is going to run closer to midday this weekend with a pretty mellow SSW swell. If the surf is really calm try to look for small rips and dirty stained water to concentrate your efforts.
Sometimes I have great luck on small wave days by focusing on the section of the surf with the biggest waves crashing, even if it doesn’t look like much. This usually has the most(or only) crabs being mixed around and the fish tend to focus in on those areas. Winds look mellow for the AM and pick up slightly in the evenings leaving us with a near perfect weather. Hope everyone has a great week, we’ll see you on the beach!
