Lower Yuba & Valley Steelhead Fly Fishing Report

Captain Ben Thompson Reports on November 8th, 2025

Lower Yuba Report:

Flows have been sitting pretty steady at a little over 1,100 CFS, on the Lower Yuba. With salmon still around, eggs have been a go-to, especially in the mornings, and as more precipitation comes more salmon should push up, running the egg bite through December. For nymphing bugs, caddis and baetis have mostly been the name of the game with caddis more on sunny days and baetis on overcast. Rubberlegs are on the menu some days as well. Keeping your eyes peeled for risers throughout mid-morning to mid-day can lead to some good dry fly fishing in certain areas of the river. For dries, I never sleep on a small Parachute Adams or crippled caddis/pinky PMD's, based on what is hatching.

Valley Steelhead Report:

After an amazing October the valley, steelhead fishing continues to be strong. Eggs are heavy on the menu early in the day, and then as it progresses we have been catching fish on Fox Pupas, Birds Nests, Strawberries and Cream and micro mayflies. Plenty of salmon are still around, and while numbers can drop off a bit in November, it is a great time to hunt for big quality fish which we have been running into quite a bit. Fish are starting to get congested more in certain areas than be spread thick all over.

I have attached a few photos from the last two days. I have November 28, 29, 30 open and plenty in December--easy online booking at benthompsonoutdoors.com or give me a call 916-743-8290.
