LCO Staff Reports on November 25th, 2025
It's late season on the Delta, but there's still time to get some bass thumb. November is big fish season on the Delta. Though the water and air temps are cool, big fish are hunting big meals before the temps get cold and they begin to think about spawning.
We fished out of Rio Vista with a surprising number of other boats for a cold, foggy, late season day--wind zero wind all day, a Delta rarity. All of them were trolling for stripers, so not of any consequence to the fly angler.
We found fish in mostly shallower water, from 3-8 feet, the water temp hovered around 58F all day, with decent clarity. No spot put out big numbers, but patience seemed the rule of the day. When we encountered a fish or two, we repeated the drift and depth as closely as possible and were able to pull another fish or two out each drift. A few of those fish were over the 10lb mark.
Get it now, while it's happening. With stable weather upcoming, the Deltas should fish well for a couple more weeks. There's always a few fish cruising the Delta through the winter, but when winter really sets in, it'll be March before things heat up again.
