Lower Yuba Fly Fishing Report

Joe Garza reports on September 12th, 2026

Fishing on the Lower Yuba remains good. This has been my most consistent river this summer, as far as flows go.
Our fish have remained active on hoppers and are now starting the transition to Fall. This cooler weather really turned the dry fly bite on, however, the system has had a lot of pressure, causing the fish to be a little spooky. When this happens, run a 12ft leader and put on a smaller fly. Make sure your fly is out in front of every cast. Once the fish see your fly line they will stop feeding on the surface for a while.
Focus has shifted towards baetis (#16/18) and trico's (#18/20). Rubberlegs (#8) have also been productive. Don't forget the section above HWY 20 is closed for spawning salmon. Our egg drop is right around the corner, with salmon currently in the system. Time to get those Fall trips on the books!

Tight Lines,
Joe Garza
