Feather River Fly Fishing Report

Joe Garza reports on September 12th, 2026

It's not quite time to put those swing rods away just yet. Steelhead have started showing up, however, getting a good drift between the salmon is challenging. Plus, when you do end up hooking a steelhead the salmon will attack it.
We are still a few weeks out from targeting fall steelhead. Right now we are getting 6 to 8 steelhead to the net per drift on caddis and baetis. The steelhead are not quite egg crazy yet. Once the salmon pair up and start digging the steelhead will go "egg crazy".
We are still picking up salmon on the swing in the high flow and there are still more salmon moving up in the system. I don't see the salmon swing slowing down any time soon, but we have opportunities for both salmon and steelhead right now. October and November are primed for great steelhead fishing!

Tight Lines,
