Lower Sacramento Fly Fishing Report
Dave Neal reports on 8.6.2015 :
The L Sac has been outstanding this week! The upper section from the Posse
Grounds to Hwy 44 Bridge re-opened to fishing on Saturday, August 1st (salmon
protection deal) and it’s quite evident that the few months of closure was nothing
short of awesome for these resident trout. Being able to freely feed on whatever
they felt like - without consequence - has produced some super fish, or at least
rested the hogs that have always lurked there. The fish are fat, super hot, and full
of piss and vinegar. Peeps that had the vision and foresight to book trips weeks
ago with local guides got to experience an epic time this week with outstanding
fishing.
The weather has been very nice this week (for August). Both Sunday and
Tuesday, we had clouds roll over in the afternoon accompanied by a cool
breeze… air temps dropped to mid 80’s!! Not bad considering it was supposed to
be hovering the 100 degree mark all week. The weather is looking great for the
rest of this week and hope it continues so the fire season can soon get past us.
Smoke from nearby wildfires in Trinity County has not yet affected air quality in
Redding, but that could change with wind direction. Please keep the firefighters
in your thoughts and prayers while they fight to save homes, towns, and these
nearby local communities.
My August calendar is mostly booked up but I may have the 15/16 weekend
open (call if interested) also August 20, 21, 23, 28, 30, 31
September is pretty open and I anticipate a great early fall season on the Lower Sac come check it out
