Truckee & Tahoe Fly Fishing Report

Aug 6, 20151 min read

Matt Gilligan Koles reports on 8.6.2015

A little more rain and cooler temps this week are helping.

Flows out of Boca have come up a little bit, adding a little more volume to the Truckee River. Flows here in Hirschdale are about 100 cfs. Enough to keep these fish going until we get cooler fall temps and more water. It actually is probably fishable in the mornings right now, but please, lets wait for conditions to improve and hold of off on fishing the Truckee River for now.

Flows have come back up on the Little Truckee River to 120 cfs, very good flows, and the best place to catch trout in the Lake Tahoe area, or the whole state maybe. Remember, flows will get cut back down on August 15th for work on restoring the lower portion of the river. Flows will be down for 3 weeks and un-fishable during that time. They will come back up for the remainder of fall.

Carp fishing has been really good on the sections of the lower Truckee River below Sparks. Carp fishing will test your patience and your angling ability. We had a great clinic last week. Well, we hooked two, that is actually pretty good. When you do hook one you will be in for a wild ride. I have another clinic this weekend and a few spots left. Carp is a hard sell, but they are the real deal.
