Fall River & Hat Creek Fly Fishing Report

Arrow Thin Left Icon

Dave Neal Reports on 6.9.2017

I’m in Fall River Valley today and it feels like October weather, not June! Nor Cal report: Been all over Shasta County this past week fishing from Lower Sac, Hat Creek, Fall River, McCloud and Baum Lake. Everything is good and getting better as the summer season comes into bloom.

Today’s weather is a little weird, but hey, I’ll take it as I’m sure we’ll have plenty of hot summer days ahead!! Fall River area has been a lot fun- lots of happy guests at Clearwater Lodge being introduced to this amazing spring creek system and all the nooks and crannies there are to explore up here. Don’t hesitate on making reservations as the Lodge has been busy and it looks like we are off to another fantastic season! Still a few weeks away for the Hex but mayfly activity and swinging small leeches has been superb on the Fall.

Hat Creek has been producing some excellent fishing particularly on the cloudy days we have had lately. Drakes are still popping on these days and it can be epic when it happens. Lower Sac has been consistent and the hydropsyche caddis are getting more active. Anticipating the late afternoon -evening fishing to be an event not to miss in the coming weeks/months ahead. Upper portion to 44Bridge is now closed until Aug 1 so the trout will get a good rest period and the winter salmon can do their thing. We’ll all hope for the best there and look forward to August when we have an “opening day” in the dog days of summer.
